April 23, 2010 will go down in history as the day the United States of America took a step back to an era prior to 1960’s Civil Rights, and into the days of Jim Crow; a dark era of open and legalized discrimination. Arizona, in a rather nefarious manner, attempted to address illegal immigration in its state by passing SB 1070, which was signed into law by Republican Governor, Jan Brewer. Though many are in support of the spirit of the law, the law shamefully goes too far and further tarnished the Republican Party’s legacy on civil rights and its adherence to the liberties promised in the United States Constitution. Ultimately this is an attempt to once again divide the people in order to secure national gains for the minority party, the Republican Party. (more…)
