Bey-ond beauty

The titles given for beauty are intensely sought after. Most women would do whatever it takes to be given a title based on their beauty. When Beyoncé was named the most beautiful woman for 2012 by People Magazine last month many acknowledged that the title was not based on physical beauty alone, but went way beyond it.

Jamison’s Farewell

Jamison in "Cry"

Many of us have heard the old saying, “give me my flowers while I’m alive, so that I can smell them.” Well, Judith Jamison received her flowers last night.  Judith Jamison, artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater since 1989, announced in 2008, that she would retire in 2011.  Her adoring fans could not stop clapping last night at AAADT’s January 2, 2011 performance at the NY City Center which was billed as Jamison’s Farewell.

Tea time at Dancing With the Stars

Bristol Palin

After stumbling through another lack luster performance on “Dancing With The Stars” last Monday, viewers were surprised that although she has consistently scored lowest in the competition, Bristol Palin survived to dance for yet another week.

Bristol struggled through the “Instant Dance” as she tried very hard to stay alert and connected to the music.  Many believe that Bristol, the 20-year old daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, is being kept alive on the show because of her mother’s avid and loyal Tea Party following.

In the lion’s den

Lion attack

The video of the worker in a glass-enclosed Habitat being attacked by a lion at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on Sept. 1, 2010, is disturbing.  It leads to one question, why?

Why would an employer hire men to stand in a cage with 2 lions?  Why would anyone take this job? In February, 2010, a killer whale at SeaWorld attacked and killed a trainer in front of a horrified audience. Witnesses say the whale, which was involved in two previous deaths, dragged the trainer under and thrashed her around violently.

Is Dan Gilbert’s letter a call to action?

James

Thankfully, the Lebron fiasco has died down a little.  Although most people say they understand that Lebron’s job is to play professional ball, and that a man has the right to seek out and acquire the best paying job he can to support his family, they say they are upset at ‘the way he did it.’  This refers to the media circus they say Lebron created just to publicly humiliate the teams that were negotiating with him.

I’m not going to comment about that.  I think enough has been said already. I’m also not going to comment on Jesse Jackson’s open letter about Dan Gilbert in which he said that Gilbert’s feelings of betrayal “personify a slave master mentality.”  I think enough has been said about that too

Tiger’s over a barrel

Tiger & his daughter

Reports that Elin will be awarded $100 million in money and property from Tiger as a result of their divorce settlement agreement have been circulating lately. News has also been circulating that Elin will get custody of the couple’s 2 children and will be allowed to relocate with them to Sweden.

When couples divorce, if custody of the children is contested, the Judge will look at one thing only to determine who gets custody of the children – the best interests of the children. Tiger and Elin’s divorce was not litigated in court, but was settled through mediation or some type of collaborative divorce settlement.  But even in these cases, the attorneys for the parties are guided by courts’ standards because a Judge is still required to review and approve the terms of the couple’s agreement regarding child support and child custody.

Elin’s relocation to Sweden with the children appears to be unfair, but Tiger had to go along with it because it’s clear that she’s got him over a barrel.  Although courts generally do not like to consider the sexual conduct of a parent in deciding custody, evidence that the parent’s sexual conduct would create a harmful environment for the children, would weigh heavily in the Judge’s determination concerning who gets custody.

Message to Michael, Whitney and Naomi

Jackson

When I look at the troubled lives of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Naomi Campbell, I see one common factor.  None of them have (or in Michael’s case – had) any idea of their true value and the extent of their fans’ love and appreciation.
