In the lion’s den
The video of the worker in a glass-enclosed Habitat being attacked by a lion at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on Sept. 1, 2010, is disturbing. It leads to one question, why?
Why would an employer hire men to stand in a cage with 2 lions? Why would anyone take this job? In February, 2010, a killer whale at SeaWorld attacked and killed a trainer in front of a horrified audience. Witnesses say the whale, which was involved in two previous deaths, dragged the trainer under and thrashed her around violently.
These animal shows are very profitable for the employers, and they may yield some minor contribution to science, but at what cost?
Why is placing an unarmed man in a cage with 2 lions a good idea? Daniel had to pray 3 times daily to be delivered from lions. Why is putting 40 year old, unarmed, Dawn Brancheau, in a tank with a 27 foot killer whale considered to be legal employment? Who is protecting these employees? These workers should be armed, at the very least with stun guns or tranquilizer guns.
Do these employers really believe that a man can tame a wild animal? Man has intellect, but animals operate on instinct. When the male lion looked over to his left, and the worker flinched under his gaze, the lion sensed his fear, and his instincts took over. He didn’t lose it, or go wild, he is wild. He did what all lions do, he attacked. If the female lion didn’t check the male lion by biting his tail, this tale would have had a very different ending.

These workers need a union.
